Ted Heath allegations
So, our former Prime Minister is alleged to have molested boys and the police failed to investigate.

Correct me if I'm wrong but is this not MASSIVE news?

Puts Watergate in the shade if found to be true.

Suppose it depends on whether they were nice kids form decent backgrounds or just runaways that were asking for it.

Tories are allowed to do that. They are the rulers, we are the plebs!

How does it put Watergate in the shade????

Re: Ted Heath allegations
I'm sure that was very much the attitude of the time.

This is easily the biggest scandal around an establishment figure I can ever remember but I don't think the public is really all that bothered. That's my feeling.

Let's see what the inquiry led by New Zealand judge Lowell Goddard uncovers. My guess: probably not much, conveniently.

He was from Kent, so wouldn't be a shock.

So if it uncovers nothing, you won't believe it anyway?
Probably why the public aren't that bothered.

Re: Ted Heath allegations
Because the crime involved is morally worse than the crime involved in Watergate.

Unless you think that breaking in to a political opponent's office is worse than child abuse.

Re: Ted Heath allegations
Depends how credible the allegations are by today's standards.

The bar for accepting them as serious was obviously too high in the past, but this doesn't mean that all past allegations were true.

Re: Ted Heath allegations
I'll look at the evidence that is found and come to my own judgement.

Most of those allegedly involved are now dead anyway.

The scandal is that their activities were ignored at the time. Disgusting.

Worth stating here that I don't think this is a party political issue. Let's not forget Labour peer Lord Janner.

Missed a trick here Jim.

Tread title should have said.

Didn't want to sully Leo's name by using it in a thread related to crime.

Although I might use it if I ever start a thread about tax evasion.

Re: Ted Heath allegations
I'd wager that the MP's paedophile scandal will be released around about the same time as the Chilcot inquiry so as to minimise the effect on the Tories...

Nice timing.

I suspect something much more contemporary is bubbling just below the surface and this is a "Throw the press-hounds off the scent" operation.

He's been dead for years. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a kiddie fiddler as he was always a bit of a sailor...

To suggest it's a Conservative thing is a bit desperate ray when Greville Janner gets away with it with his Alzheimers. I think it's all those thrashings the politicians got as boys at private schools...

Re: Ted Heath allegations
Why don't you hold your powder dry until some actual evidence appears, this allegation was made over 25 years ago and it was investigated albeit not with much diligence, you can draw a conclusion from that of sorts but it also begs the question why the retired cop hasn't come forward before now. Heath's been dead over 10 years so why wait

If true it would come as no real surprise, not because of Heath or who he is but that MP's of all parties are the most immoral bunch of all

read up about Morning Cloud and what was going on in Guernsey.

There's a lot of this shit to yet hit the public at large.

Re: Ted Heath allegations
Seems odd that the police bloke would wait so long to reveal this.
That said I am sure this sort of protection thing seemed pretty common as with Cyril Smith and Saville.
Nothing surprises me with politicians of any party but if it comes to buggering boys and throwing dead bodies off your yacht then I will be officially FLABBERGHASTED.
